Roy P. Conklin began by experimenting with pens that could be self filled from ink bottles back in about 1891 and began a company that produced high quality pens in 1897. The production of pens continued on until World War II ended. Conklin produced and patented the Crescent filler which proved most durable yet simple as a means of filling the fountain pen. The Crescent model pens proved extremely successful and were manufactured from 1901 until the end of the 20’s.
Mark Twain himself endorsed the Conklin line of fountain pens. However it is uncertain exactly which model of pen he preferred for his famous writing.
