Eversharp Fountain Pen models that were not only sturdily constructed but also quite pleasing in appearance included the Gold Seal manufactured in the 1920’s and having a 14K gold medium fine nib, the Doric which came about in the 1930’s also having a 14K gold medium nib, the Skyline made in the 1940’s with a fine 14K nib, and the Eversharp Ventura that was produced in the 1950’s with a fine nib made of 14K gold. When looking at old fountain pens, whether used or new models, make sure all parts are there and intact or you may end up with a leaky messy pen that is no fun to use. It should be in working order, the filler will be most efficient if it is the lever filler type, and there should be no cracks in the body of the pen. Most of these pens were mostly of plastic materials and should last a long time.
The first reservoir type pen dates back to around the tenth century but the Eversharp Fountain Pens that came along in the mid 1800’s were much easier to fill and write with while also being far less messy. The fountain pen’s nib or writing point is usually made from gold, stainless steel, or some form of platinum such as iridium. Later cartridges were filled with ink and replaced as needed making the filling of the fountain pen far easier and safer. A combination of capillary action along with gravity allow the ink to flow onto paper without applying too much pressure, allowing the nib to flex and the writing could be wider or finer as required by the writer.
