Description
The timelessness of this design is evident by the fact that the 2000 is still being sold more than 30 years after its creation. As a result, the LAMY 2000 has been included in almost every selection of German and European design; in 1984 it was awarded the Busse Long Life Design prize. The 2000 is a combination of Makrolon reinforced by fiberglass and brush-finished stainless steel, and the spring-operated clip is made from solid stainless steel. You'll find that this one can take the heat, wherever you're writing. Fountain pen is piston-filled, and the multi-pen contains three ballpoints in blue, red, and green. Material: Makrolon. Nib Material: 14K. Warranty: Lifetime. Weight: Medium/Light. MANUFACTURERS WILL ONLY HONOR WARRANTIES ON PRODUCTS PURCHASED FROM AN AUTHORIZED DEALER. DON'T GET BURNED, BUY AUTHORIZED.

Reviews
The Lamy 2000 is a beautiful pen, very understated but feels perfect in the hand. Much lighter than you might expect, and the brushed feeling makes it easy to hold. So why only 3 stars? The pen has a tendency to leak. After only a month, mine often has ink drops that leak out of the body at the top, near the threads of the piston filler. My hands are always stained with ink! So it is going back to Lamy for servicing. I've heard this from others, that you can expect to send yours back to the company within 2 years. I like hooded nib designs, and have used a Parker 51 for over 20 years. However, I was looking for a new pen to supplement the Parker with a finer nib. In hindsight, I should have purchase a Pilot Vanishing Point, the Japanese have higher quality control. UPDATE: One Month Later... Before sending the Lamy 2000 back for servicing, I purchased a Pilot Namiki Vanishing Point Rhodium Trim Fountain Pen. This was another pen I had admired for years and was the same price at the Lamy 2000. Well, the Vanishing Point is superb! Much smoother nib than the Lamy 2000 and no leaking! I would recommend it highly over the Lamy, it is even nicer than my Parker 51. My review for the Lamy 2000 is now 2 stars instead of 3. They simply must figure out how to manufacture fountain pens that don't leak.
I've been an owner of Lamy 2000 fountain pens for more than twenty years, which amount to four of them, which I still own and use every day. I could boldly define or describe them as a timeless statement of understatement. It's like having a piece of German designer art with you at all times. They are elegant, minimalistic, always modern and pure. They are also very pleasant to write. I use Mont Blanc ink in all of the imaginable colors and change colors in them without any problems at all. Now for the down side: these pens are good as for a year, maybe two depending on usage, after which they need maintenance at the factory since they start leaking at mid center where the prongs are that attach the cap to the pen. It must be noted though, that the pen is guaranteed for life by the factory --please read the pamphlet that accompanies any Lamy pen-- and I mean really guaranteed since it applies worldwide. Each of mine are picked up at my office by a Lamy representative, sent to Germany and back where they have been refurbished and renewed at least two times each, after which they return in perfect working condition, again, for one or two years depending on usage, which in my case is really heavy to all of them. I give them four stars because of the leaking (attributed to a faulty gasket that seemingly hardens with time and ink) which I figure should have been sorted out by the factory after all these years since its introduction. I must also say, that I haven't found another pen that pleases me so much. Others may be more reliable, others may write more pleasantly, but none combines all the characteristics of my Lamy 2000s. They're like my Breitling Aerospace titanium watch: timeless, always beautiful to look at, and could never find any other that could match it.
The Lamy 2000 fountain pen is perfect for people who want a good, solid workhorse fountain pen. The differential piston mechanism can easily gulp down a large supply of ink. The breather hole is positioned as close to the nib as possible, so you only have to dip the very tip of the pen to fill it up. Since the body is mostly made of Makrolon with stainless steel accents it is very light, yet feels warm and substantial in your hand. This classic of 1960s design is equally at home sitting next to Apple's latest aluminum keyboard or your favorite Eames chair. Note that Lamy 2000 nibs run seem to run a size larger than marked. My XF nib writes like a German F nib, or a Japanese M nib.
