Pelikan manufactures their own line of nibs, ink, cartridges, and fine quality pens in every price category. The Pelikan Twist was a special design intended for the young writer in many vibrant colors and patterns which changed with each model year. They have a stainless steel nib for long and reliable use. Other models designed for children included the M22 Nature Pen, the P22 Culture Pen, and the model P25 or Super Pirates Pen.

In 1960 the Pelikano began production as a line of school age writer’s fountain pen that included a cartridge for easy refills. More modern Pelikan Fountain Pens include the Level line, introduced in 1996 with a uniquely modern and new system of refilling.

Since about the 10th century, hand writing became popular, especially due to improvements in ink quality and the ease of filling fountain pens. The original fountain pen had to be dipped into ink every few words to keep the flow consistent. Even then handling the ink was a messy business, creating stained hands and clothing. The invention of the nib and a filling system improved writing and many modern brands of writing implements came into being. The pen’s nib is made from either gold, stainless steel, or some form of platinum material such as iridium, making them super hard and able to withstand heavy use such as done by students and professional writers. Pelikan fountain pens have been around, producing high quality pens, since the latter eighteen hundreds and began in Germany.
