The fountain pen contains a nib or tip that distributes ink, usually from a reservoir or cartridge onto the paper used by a writer. From school age children to technical writers the fountain pen remains the standard for high quality hand written script or drawing. Sailor has an entire line of fountain pens dedicated to the year they first began production of fine quality writing tools and that is the 1911 Series. Whether it is a fine point or and extra fine point that is preferred there is a Sailor pen that will please the writer. The 1911 Series are each made from gold trims and high quality resins with a 14k solid gold nib. One exceptional pen from the 1911 Series is the large REALO which is found in black with an engraved 21k fine gold nib. The REALO has a piston fill mechanism with a window showing the ink capacity.
Usually made from either gold or stainless steel (sometimes a derivative of platinum such as iridium), the fountain pen’s nib or tip supplies ink and distributes it onto paper. Early models had to be dipped continually into the ink bottle but later on most had either a cartridge or reservoir to hold a supply of ink, eliminating the need for continual dipping.
