Waterman Fountain Pens
Waterman Fountain Pens are a first generation writing instrument. As one of the few remaining manufacturers of the first generation of fountain pens, Waterman proudly remains a major manufacturer of fine writing implements. First established back in New York City back in 1884 by Lewis Waterman, the company is now owned by Newell Rubbermaid and continues on with the high quality of manufacture the name deserves. Lewis Waterman made various changes to the basic fountain pen, improving each time and forging ahead of the competition. His improvements in the basic design and overall marketing genius turned the fountain pen into a mass marketed item that quite successfully sold worldwide.

The body of a typical fountain pen can be found made from various metals or plastic and the nib or tip molded from stainless steel or even 14k gold or some form of platinum like an iridium thus forming a precision line making tool that is also long lasting. Many writers prefer the flexibility of their fountain pen’s nib as a way to individualize their handwriting style. Look to vintage fountain pens like the Waterman for fine writing in long hand or script that you can add your own flair to the communication of the written word.
Noted for the pens reliability and high standards in quality, the Waterman fountain pen company aggressively sold their pens around the globe and these early models, which were made of a hard rubber and including 14k gold nibs, were highly popular. This means there are still plenty of early examples to be found and collected or simply used for daily writing.
One model of Waterman pen of note is the Waterman C/F which came about in 1953 with the introduction of the first modern day ink cartridge made of plastic. Other models include the Edson, the Hémisphère, and the Philéas. Some early models that are still fairly easy to locate have a slip cap eyedropper or a screw cap lever filler that made refills easier and less messy. Another Waterman Fountain Pen model has the #42 safety pen with a retractable nib.
